Jean-Christophe Cambadelis – Which are the progressive initiatives against the crisis?

Jean-Christophe Cambadelis

What is important in relation to the current crisis is to interpret it accurately and to seek progressive solutions. We were right when we were fighting for the regulation of a market that embodies a force that just moves forward without a clear direction. We, therefore, need an ethic for global economic policies. In other words, we must draw the path for an ecological and social “domestication” of the market economy. In order to achieve this, our peoples need a provident state that places green and sustainable economic development at the service of the citizens. What is also required is a council of economic security with the aim of protecting us against financial absurdities and placing the goals of justice and social progress at the center of all commercial activities and transactions.

The state has become again the refuge against financial turbulences. To deal with the crisis, a regulatory state is needed, one that proposes a coordinated program of recovery which is at the same time effective against tax havens. We also ought to reconsider the banking system. If it is correct for states to support deposit banks, then speculative banks ought also to assume their own risks.
