Marc Roux – Transhumanism and political action?

What is the relation between the questions that the transhumanist movement poses, in other words the perspectives of “human evolution”, and the political action?
I have not examined this question in depth yet, but I intent to transmit, as a simple testimony, my impressions from a recent convention that took place in Brussels, on the 24th of February. It was organized by an extension of the European Parliament (STOA- Science and Technology Options Assessment-), and its subject was: “A European approach to human enhancement”.

It is an idea that grates my mind for some fifteen years now, but it must have been there since the beginning of the world. Recently, I found it again in Plato,[1] Pascal,[2] Spinoza,[3] or Sartre[4] and finally in Michel Serres.[5] In the texts of a contemporary author like Dan Simmons, it becomes a divine artificial intelligence (Hyperion). C’est une idée qui me trotte dans la tête depuis quinze ans. Elle doit être vieille comme le monde. Où en sommes-nous des relations entre les questions posées par le mouvement transhumaniste, autrement dit, les perspectives du “développement humain” et l’action politique ?
Je n’ai pas encore bien approfondi la question, mais je me propose de rapporter, comme un simple témoignage, mes impressions d’un récent colloque tenu à Bruxelles le 24 février.
